How to extract a purchase order into a clear record
A purchase order describes requested goods or services and the terms under which they are ordered. Extracting it helps compare the order with later delivery or invoice records.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- a purchase order rendered as HTML or user-provided web text.
- The intended result
- Export PO number, buyer, supplier and requested line items without placing an order.
How the workflow works.
Preserve the order identifier, supplier, delivery details and line-item units. Keep each quantity attached to its specification so a pack count cannot be confused with the number of individual items.
What to check in the result.
Review revisions and incomplete fields before using the output. An order documents an instruction or agreement; it does not prove that goods were received or an invoice was paid.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: PO number, Buyer, Supplier, Item, Quantity. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
The supplied example is illustrative. It is not a recorded run on your data.
