A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to use the UX Research Plan Generator.

Choose the research method around a decision the team needs to make. A broad desire to understand users is not a sufficient study scope.

Make the workflow fit your task.

Start with the product decision and the uncertainty blocking it, then choose a method that can provide relevant evidence. Define participants, activities, analysis and the point at which findings will inform the decision.

Illustrative input and output · a teaching example, not a live WebAct run

Example input

Decision: whether an import-review screen needs a separate approval step. Plan an exploratory study with five catalog managers using a sample comparison task. Understand review behavior and ownership; do not claim statistical representation.

Completed example

Question: where do reviewers check changes, and who is responsible for approving them?
Participants: five catalog managers with relevant review experience.
Activity: observe a sample comparison, then ask how approval works in their normal process.
Record: missed changes, expressed uncertainty and handoff responsibilities.
Analysis: compare patterns and preserve contradictory cases.
Decision use: assess whether a separate approval step addresses an observed problem or whether clearer review cues should be explored first.
Limit: exploratory evidence, not a representative failure-rate estimate.

Decisions and troubleshooting.

Does every research question require an interview study?

Choose the method according to the evidence needed. Observed behavior, existing data and evaluative tasks can answer different questions.

Why does the research plan collect data without changing a decision?

State how possible findings would affect the choice. A broad learning goal needs a concrete decision connection.

Try it with your own source.

Replace the example with your material in the task prompt. Keep the requirements you need, then copy the task into WebAct.
