How to extract the requirements from a job posting
A requirements list helps an applicant or hiring administrator understand what a posting explicitly asks for. It makes the distinction between mandatory and preferred qualifications easier to review.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- one open job posting.
- The intended result
- Export explicit required skills, optional skills, location and application instructions.
How the workflow works.
Group stated skills, experience, credentials and practical conditions while preserving qualifiers such as preferred or required. Keep the posting reference with the extracted details.
What to check in the result.
Check that desirable experience has not become a mandatory requirement. The extraction should not add qualifications based on what a similar role usually needs.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: Requirement, Classification, Source wording. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
