How to parse an order confirmation into useful fields
An order confirmation contains the references and purchase details needed for later checks. Structured extraction helps connect an order with support, fulfillment or expense records.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- an opened order confirmation email or page.
- The intended result
- Export purchased items, quantities, delivery address supplied in the order and total.
How the workflow works.
Keep the order reference, item descriptions, quantities, amounts and stated delivery information separate. Preserve wording that distinguishes an estimate from a confirmed event.
What to check in the result.
Check the selected message for corrections or cancellations before relying on it. A confirmation of ordering is not necessarily confirmation of shipment, delivery or final payment settlement.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: Order ID, Item, Quantity, Delivery address, Order total, Currency. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
