How to export a Help Scout conversation for a careful handoff
A conversation export helps preserve the selected correspondence when another person needs to inspect the details. Message boundaries and source context keep the record understandable.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- one expanded Help Scout support conversation.
- The intended result
- Selected readable messages from one conversation.
How the workflow works.
Retain readable authors, timestamps and message text, distinguishing notes from replies where indicated. Keep attachments as references unless their contents were actually supplied.
What to check in the result.
Review the selected messages and sharing audience before passing on the file. Exporting readable content does not mean that all customer conversations or linked files were included.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: Conversation, Message type, Author, Displayed date, Text. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
The supplied example is illustrative. It is not a recorded run on your data.
