How to check email-list formatting before an import
An email-format review helps identify malformed addresses and obvious list-cleanup issues. It is useful before importing contacts, provided its scope is distinguished from checking delivery or ownership.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- a visible business email column.
- The intended result
- Trim whitespace and flag syntax problems without claiming deliverability or mailbox verification.
How the workflow works.
Apply a clear syntax and whitespace rule while preserving original row references. Separate invalid-looking values, duplicates and missing addresses so each kind of issue can be handled appropriately.
What to check in the result.
Review flagged entries before changing them. A syntactically plausible email address may not receive mail, and formatting checks do not establish consent or prove that a mailbox exists.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: Original, Trimmed value, Syntax status, Deliverability checked. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
The supplied example is illustrative. It is not a recorded run on your data.
