Should vocabulary practice include only a translation for each word?
Add a context sentence and a task that requires recalling the meaning. Translation alone may not show how the word is used.
Why can the learner recognize a word but not use it in conversation?
Recognition and retrieval are different skills. Ask for an original sentence or a short response using the word.
