How to save readable webpage content as Markdown
Markdown is useful for keeping an article or reference page in a format that can be edited, searched and versioned. The aim is to preserve the content hierarchy without carrying over the page's entire visual layout.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- a selected article with visible headings and text.
- The intended result
- Save readable text as Markdown with headings, links and source attribution.
How the workflow works.
Select the meaningful content and keep headings, lists and links in reading order. Decide whether navigation and promotional blocks belong in the export before converting the page into a document.
What to check in the result.
Preview the Markdown and check that headings remain nested sensibly, list items stay separate and link destinations are intact. Treat the file as a snapshot of the selected content, with its source recorded.
Preview the Markdown to check headings, lists and links as well as the words. Keep source references with the document so a reviewer can trace important statements back to the material you supplied.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable Markdown example shows one possible organization of the result. Read it alongside the source example and notice which statements are recorded facts, proposed wording or questions still needing an answer.
The supplied example is illustrative. It is not a recorded run on your data.
