How to extract hreflang tags for a locale-link review
A hreflang inventory helps inspect the language and regional URLs declared by a page. It is useful for spotting missing values, repeated entries or destinations that deserve a closer check.
Start with the right material.
- What you provide
- the approved readable link attributes from one webpage’s DOM.
- The intended result
- Observed hreflang URLs and language codes from one document.
How the workflow works.
Preserve each supplied language code and URL exactly, including any x-default entry. Keep multiple declarations visible rather than silently choosing the one that appears most plausible.
What to check in the result.
Verify destination pages and reciprocal links as a separate step when reviewing implementation. A tag inventory alone does not establish that a translation exists, is indexable or is selected by a search engine.
Import the CSV with a consistent delimiter and inspect text identifiers, dates and amounts before using spreadsheet totals. Keep the original file available while checking any automatic type conversion.
Learn from the worked example.
The downloadable CSV example uses these columns: Hreflang, Href. Compare a complete record with the source before sorting, combining or importing your own output.
